Alessandro Mendini
Alessandro Mendini (1931–2019) was an Italian architect, designer, theorist and editor born in Milan, central figure of post-modern Italian design and chief editor of Casabella, Modo and Domus across his career. He co-founded Studio Alchimia in 1979 alongside Sottsass, Branzi and De Lucchi, articulating the radical movement that would lead to Memphis.
His Proust armchair (1978) for Studio Alchimia is one of the most recognised post-modern objects of the twentieth century. He collaborated with Magis, Alessi, Cappellini, Swatch and Bisazza. The 3D Model Unity catalog includes high-precision NURBS 3D models of Alessandro Mendini pieces for Magis, available for Rhinoceros 3D.

The brand pioneered new uses of injection-moulded plastics, rotational moulding and aluminium die-casting in design furniture, producing icons including the Air Chair by Jasper Morrison, the Chair_One and Brut series by Konstantin Grcic, and the Bombo stool by Stefano Giovannoni. Magis also operates Me Too, a dedicated children's collection. Production is centred in north-east Italy.
