Vico Magistretti

Vico Magistretti was an Italian industrial designer and architect who made significant contributions to the design world throughout his career. Born in Milan in 1920, Magistretti studied architecture at the Polytechnic University of Milan before transitioning to industrial design.

Magistretti's work is known for its simplicity, functionality, and elegance. He designed a wide range of products, including furniture, lighting, and household objects. Some of his notable designs include the Eclisse table lamp, the Carimate chair, and the Atollo table lamp.

Magistretti's designs have won numerous awards, including the Compasso d'Oro, the highest honor for Italian design. He was also inducted into the Interior Design Hall of Fame in 1986 and was awarded the Royal Designer for Industry honor in 1997.

Aside from his design work, Magistretti was also a teacher and mentor to many young designers. He taught at the Polytechnic University of Milan and the Domus Academy and was known for his generosity and willingness to share his knowledge with others.

Magistretti passed away in 2006, leaving behind a legacy of timeless designs that continue to inspire and influence the design world today.
